Made just for you

Commissions

I accept and welcome commissions by request. Whether you have a specific idea or just a feeling, palette, place, or memory in mind, reach out and we can collaborate to shape it into a one-of-a-kind piece.

The process

What to expect

You do not need a fully formed concept before reaching out. A few references, favorite colors, a room photo, or the story behind the piece are enough to begin.

Subject matter note While I welcome a wide range of creative requests, please note that I do not paint portraits of people. If you have questions about whether your idea fits within my current scope of work, we can easily discuss it during your free consultation!

Start the conversation

Let's get started: please fill out my quick project questionnaire by clicking the button below. In this form, you will be able to share your vision, general palette, timeline, and preferred size. Refer to the pricing menu below for standard sizing. For larger custom sizes or round canvas options, simply note this in your form and I will calculate a personalized estimate accordingly.

Confirm the direction

Once you submit your questionnaire, you will see a link to book a free 30-minute consultation where we will finalize your project details. After our conversation, I will email you your custom quote and contract from orders@paintbyrhi.com, which will remain valid for 3 days. Please note: To officially secure your spot on my studio calendar, a signed contract and a 50% non-refundable deposit (or full payment for commissions under $100) are required before any sketching or creative work begins.

Create the piece

After the signed contract and required payment are received, I will create and send your initial detailed sketch design. This is our collaborative space for final layout changes and confirmation. Once the design is confirmed, I will officially begin bringing your artwork to life! Important note: To keep your project on schedule, please review the sketch and share any feedback or approval within 48 hours of receipt. As outlined in our contract, this is the final step to adjust the composition. Because of the nature of the medium, major structural revisions cannot be made once painting is underway and the artwork begins to take shape.

Approve & receive

You will receive a high-resolution proof of the finished painting for final sign-off. Once your final art payment or outstanding shipping invoice is successfully processed, we will arrange your local pickup or secure U.S. shipping. Please note: No artistic changes can be made at this final stage!

A note on timingCommission timelines depend on size, complexity, drying time, and my current studio schedule. Please expect the process to take several weeks; we will agree on a realistic timeline before work begins, and date-sensitive requests should be shared in the first message.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What materials do you use?

All custom pieces are created on cotton stretched canvas, prepped with a sanded gesso base for a smooth painting surface, using quality acrylic paints. Each finished painting is sealed with a professional protective varnish. This clear topcoat shields the surface from dust, moisture, and UV light, preserving the vibrant colors for years to come.

Do your paintings come framed or ready to hang?

My custom paintings are created on stretched canvas with finished, painted edges, meaning they look beautiful and are ready to hang immediately without a frame! If you plan to custom-frame your piece later to match your decor, please let me know during your free consultation so I can leave the canvas edges raw for your framing specialist.

Can I request a portrait of a person?

While I welcome a wide range of creative and meaningful concepts, I do not accept or paint portraits of people at this time. I am happy to paint landscapes, abstracts, objects, and pets! If you have questions about whether your idea fits my style, we can easily chat during your free consultation.

How long will it take to receive my painting?

Because custom art depends on your requested size, complexity, and my current studio schedule, timelines vary per project — we'll discuss and lock in a realistic completion date together during your free consultation, before any contract is signed. See the "What to expect" section above for more on how commission timing works.

Can I request changes while you are painting?

To protect the integrity of the artwork as it takes shape, all structural changes (layout, composition, major elements) must be requested during the 48-hour sketch review period. Once paint hits the canvas, no major revisions or additions can be made.

Do you ship internationally?

Currently, shipping is strictly limited to addresses within the United States only. For clients in the Central Jersey area, free local pickup can easily be coordinated at a public safe exchange spot upon completion!

What if my commission arrives damaged?

All commissions are final sale, since each piece is created specifically for you. Every painting is carefully and securely packaged before it ships. Standard carrier insurance (up to $100 through USPS or UPS) is included on every shipped piece at no extra cost. If your piece arrives damaged, please contact me within 48 hours of delivery with photos of the damage, and I will coordinate the necessary steps for filing a claim with the shipping carrier, as needed.
